This piece was made for an upcoming show Nate and they boys down the hall had set up. It started with Nate and I going over ways to make up the rent he owed (starving artist). He owed a bit. We decided he would due a painting for me (Janis, Dave, & the Devil) and we would call it good. When I saw the finished product, I was overly excited to say the least. Nate hung the piece in the show. An old friend of ours, Scott Portell, saw the piece and offered to buy the painting (for a fraction of the debt). I was pissed. Nate, oblivious to the situation. Scott, had no idea. 6 years later, Scott calls me and says, "It freaks out my family when they stay with us" and gives Amy and I the painting for our wedding gift. Crazy, ain't it?! p.s. thanks scott. we love ya.

The plot gets deeper on the Devil painting. Scott and Kris come out to visit me and we go up North for a conference Kris was involved in. Scott and I talk about the piece and I find out that Scott had been funding Nate's art supplies since he got out of college. So, in retrospect, this painting was Scott's prior to being mine. Scott had to purchase it to keep it, and then gave it to me. I am very proud to have it and to know the truth behind it.
