Nate McClain (American, 1973 - 1997) New York City Playing Cards, 1994 Pastel 4 x 3 inches Courtesy of Dave and Amy New York City Playing Cards are a set of gritty New York themed playing cards with a junkie as the Jack, prostitute as the Queen, underworld kingpin as the King, & pimp as the Ace. The set is not a complete 52 card set and goes from Aces to Eight in all suits with NYC stylized on the back of each card. The Nine of Diamonds was created for the set and has gotten lost thru the years. Nate was 21 years old when he created this artwork at Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU) in Springfield, Missouri.

I like that you used the medium of playing cards to illustrate your vision of New York and vice in general. The hierarchy works nicely, but in my opinion the businessman/godfather image should be the Ace. After all, he is the end of the line as far as crime goes. The pimp would be a good Joker figure, since he looks so much like a jester/clown. But hey, you're the artist, I'm just the jack-off looking for tattoo ideas. Good work.
