Nate McClain (American, 1973 - 1997) Ozzie Smith Retires, 1996 Acrylic 108 x 108 inches Ozzie Smith Retires is a large-scale 9-feet x 9-feet mural for an event honoring Ozzie Smith’s retirement from the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. Nate was commissioned to create this painting which features Ozzie Smith's trademark backflip in front of the St. Louis Arch. The painting was shown at an Ozzie Smith Retirement event held September 28, 1996 at the America's Center with proceeds benefiting the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation. McClain was 23 years old when he created this artwork while at the Washington Avenue Art Lofts in downtown St. Louis, MO. The owner of Nate's painting remains unknown and was last thought to be in a private collection near Jefferson City, Missouri. If anyone has information about this painting, please contact us. The Ozzie Smith painting was purchased at a charity auction and is still in the St. Louis area in a private collection
