Test Tube is an original painting depicting a test tube emitting smoke.  McClain was 23 years old when he created this artwork while at the Washington Avenue Art Lofts in downtown St. Louis, MO.

In 2003, this painting was later used for the Nate McClain Gallery logo when it launched online. The current logo incorporates Nate’s signature.
