its sad, how the artist misinterpreted the situation. it was not self inflicting ! *sigh* it was radicals and propaganda breaking apart bonds of brotherhood.

The piece resembles the conflict of one people destroying themself due to a difference of left and right. Don't believe the piece to be "making shit" of the issue, just the artists interpretation of the conflict.

between 1991 and 95 there was war in Bosnia and Hercegovina. nearly 200 000 bosnian muslims (bosniaks) were killed by serb and croat military/paramil. + The painting shows a madman commiting suicide in three different ways. + it is a very good example for the permanent misinterpretation of the situation in bosnia and the propaganda around it. + the artist did not understand that the killing of bosn. muslims was no suicide, but a genocide! this propaganda still worked to 1995! + but today in 2005 everyone knows how the serb/serbian military tried to extinct their bosn. muslim brothers

I agree with everything you have wrote, but the artist doesn't see it as serb vs. bos, he sees it as one group of people who can't co exist for reasons he doesn't understand. This one person you see doing harm to himself is the muslim faith in the area killing itself. The interpretation is what you have said, just from a different, more vague point of view.
